Financial literacy is generally lacking in this great world of ours. The reason (usually) why individuals and corporations make poor financial decisions is due to lack of education related to personal finance. Sometimes these poor decisions are due to greed, but on the whole, I would say that the people on Main Street primarily make poor financial decisions because they simply don’t know better. If you think you can afford a $200,000 house, but the bank says they will give you a loan for $350,000, how much will you borrow? Most people simply do not know how to analyze their personal financial snapshop while being objective. Most are swayed by the emotions of the purchase. I’ll pay for that later…We can afford it with both of our salaries…etc…etc. What would you do if you lost your job? What would you do if your husband or wife lost their job? Would you be financial safe? Would you be able to afford your current home mortgage payment? These are all things (among many others) that you should be thinking about on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. I hope to be able to bridge the gap between Wall Street and Main Street by focusing on personal financial literacy and education with this web site, mikefanelli.com. Please come back and visit often, comment, email, and ask questions.
